This fish scaler is made by Northrock. There is no difference between an FMA scaler and a Northrock or Haskins-Strand other than name. Starting in 2017, the FMA fish scaler switched to the Northrock model. Prior to that it was a Haskins-Strand.
If you are buying a new fish scaler, we recommend the Northrock. It has been updated and is more reliable.
Model Differences
The Haskin Strand model differs from the Northrock scaler by having a few different parts:
- Handpiece (HS is plastic; NR is metal)
- Drive cable (HS has metal inserts at the ends; NR cable is compressed to a square)
- Drive Casing (only on the heavy duty model)
- Adaptors for connections to the motor and the hand piece.
The motor, head, casing and tools are the same for both. If you are looking for parts, match the picture of your hand-piece with one of these.
The the HS is plastic; the NR is metal.
