Commercial hand-held electric fish scalers are rotating metal tools that
scrape the scales off a fish. They are powered by an electric motor
that is generally mounted on the wall. A rubber-cased flexible metal
shaft drives the rotating head.
Haskins-Strand (HS) is the original commercial hand scaler. If you have Haskins-Strand scalers, it is probably easier to stay with the brand. However, if you are purchasing this type of scaler for the first time, we would recommend the Northrock, primarily for greater durability of the drive shaft.
The Haskins-Strand is made in the USA.
Most parts for the Haskins-Strand electric fish scaler are listed below. If you need something that is not shown, please call or email us with the part numbers.
The parts that wear are almost always the drive shaft and sometimes the casing. Plan on replacing your drive shaft at least once a year. We recommend that you keep a spare on hand so that you will not lose productive time.
MAINTENANCE GUIDE FOR HASKIN STRAND DRIVE SHAFT AND CASING
When you do replace the drive shaft or casing, follow this guide. You can print it out. You can also use the guide to troubleshoot any problems you might have in operation. It is almost always the result of loose connections or a damaged drive shaft or casing.
